Creating a filter

You can create a filter in two ways. At the Preferences tab or from an email message.

Filters allow you to define rules to automatically manage incoming emails, including Calendar related messages. You can for example create filters to sort incoming mails into specific folders, mark them with a tag, forward them or never receive them.

Creating a filter at Preferences

Preferences > Mail > Filters

filter1

Click New Filter for the dialog-box "Add Filter".
Give the filter an appropriate name and check the filter to be active (if you don't want to activate it later of course).

filter2

Set the conditions that meet the purpose of the filter.
Any means that if any of the conditions in the filter are met, it is considered as a match.
All means that every condition specified in that filter rule must match in order for that message to match the filter.

filter3

Following steps can be repeated if the filter should include more conditions and actions.
Select appropriate options from the drop-down menu.
For example, if you want all messages from a specific email address with a specific subject to be placed in a special folder, you choose following. If all of the following conditions are met: From and matches exactly type in the email address in the box. Click on + to add another condition. Subject and contains type in the email subject in the box. Perform the following actions: File into folder and find the folder by clicking Browse...

filter4

and keep the box in front of "Do not process additional filters" checked. Click OK.

Creating a filter from an email

Right-click a message and select New Filter.
The ”Edit Filter” dialog-box opens up with From, To, and Subject already added from the email message.
Change the conditions and actions to fit your aim of the filter and give it an appropriate name. Keep the boxes "Active" and "Do not process additional filters" ticked and click OK.
